Lifejackets

First Aid Kit

The second important item to have I your craft is a first aid kit. Make sure to prepare a first aid kit with all the basic first aid essentials, such as some bandages, antiseptics, painkillers etc. It is better to make your first aid kit waterproof so that nothing inside will be damaged by the water. Before taking your craft to the water, try to learn at least the basic skills of first aid, if you are not already familiar with them. Having a first aid kit is not useful if you don’t know how to use it.

Throwable Life Preserver

This is as important as a lifejacket. Throwables are used in emergency situations, or more specifically in a man overboard situation. You can throw them a life preserver in case anyone fall off the craft into the water. You can choose to have wither a traditional throwable ring or a throwable cushion. Most of the times, having a throwable on board is a legal requirement. Having them in storage of your craft means the safety of the members’ board are ensured even at the worse times.

Fire Extinguisher

All crafts with an engine are usually required to take a fire extinguisher with them. Just because you are surrounded by water it does not mean that a fire cannot start within the ship if there is any mechanical error. While this is not a frequent occurrence in crafts, it is always better to have one ready just in case. Since extinguishers come in different sizes, you can choose one that suits your craft’s size and space better.

GPS

In a boating trip, a GPS can help you in so many ways. If you have to take your craft to unfamiliar areas, this will help you to find the best way to reach your destination. Or, in a case where you are lost, your GPS can be used to track your position so that help could be sent. Also, GPS can tell you the areas to avoid, where the hazards and dangers are and what are the routed you should take in order to avoid them.
